WILLEMSTAD - Edson Hato will step down as the Dutch Representative for Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten on December 1, 2024, as announced this afternoon. Hato, who began his tenure on September 1, 2023, was based in Willemstad during his role as the Representative of the Netherlands in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom.
In a statement, Hato expressed pride in his efforts to foster fruitful collaboration between the four Kingdom countries. However, he noted, “While I support the ultimate goal of this collaboration—a strong relationship between the countries—I have a different perspective on how best to achieve this. For that reason, I have decided, in good consultation, to return my assignment.”
Looking Ahead
Hato will now focus on the next steps in his career. Reflecting on his service, Director-General of Kingdom Relations Saskia Lapperre expressed gratitude for his contributions, stating:
"I want to sincerely thank Mr. Hato for his dedication. He has worked tirelessly and passionately for the Kingdom. While I respect his decision, I deeply appreciate our collaboration and wish him the best in the next chapter of his career."
Hato’s departure comes amidst ongoing efforts to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation between the countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. His contributions during his tenure have been acknowledged as instrumental in fostering dialogue and understanding.
