WILLEMSTAD - In a letter from the Financial Supervision Council (Cft) to Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha of Finance, it is stated that the deficit in the budget of 2018 of Curaçao is ultimately almost 53 million guilders.

That is 12 million guilders more than was thought on December 20 last year.

The Cft states that this is due to disappointing tax revenues. In total, Curaçao has a deficit of almost 170 million guilders for 2017 and 2018 together. The letter was sent to Gijsbertha on March 5.

The government of Curaçao had until yesterday at 4 pm to answer the Cft on how they would reduce and eliminate this deficit.
