Damen is allowed to build a new navy supply ship

THE HAGUE - The Dutch shipbuilder Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding is allowed to build the new supply ship of the navy. The Defense organization has allocated 374 million euros for this. The ship will be 50 million more expensive and will be delivered two years later than previously planned.

The Dutch Undersecretary Barbara Visser informed the Second Chamber of Parliament. The future Sr. Ms Den Helder with 75 crew members goes together with Zr. Ms Karel Doorman to take care of the supply of the fleet.

The fact that the ship, which is almost 200 meters long, costs more, is partly due to additional requirements in the field of the environment, energy and security. The ship will be built in Romania and then completed in Den Helder.

The Combat Support Ship (CSS) will be extra protected against digital attacks. "With the construction of the CSS in anticipation of a higher standard for naval ships, this is an important step in the field of cyber security," said Visser to the Chamber.
