WILLEMSTAD – With the introduction of the modern bunker ship Frontera, Curoil has taken a significant step toward strengthening its distribution network throughout the Caribbean. The Frontera, unveiled yesterday, is capable of transporting seven different types of fuel and will enable Curoil to service more than sixty ports across the region.

According to CEO Yamil Lasten, this investment symbolizes forty years of perseverance and growth since Curoil's founding in 1985. "Despite market volatility and international competition, Curoil continues to develop and reinforce its position," Lasten said. The company’s expansion aligns with Curaçao’s National Export Strategy (NES), which aims to boost sectors such as maritime and port services.
Economist Runy Calmera described the launch of the Frontera as a clear example of how strategic vision can lead to tangible results. "This shows what can be achieved when small islands think big and act strategically," Calmera stated.
He further emphasized that expanding maritime services is crucial for the island’s economic future. "Most Caribbean islands, including Curaçao, are still heavily dependent on tourism from the United States. Building sustainable prosperity requires tapping into broader economic opportunities, both locally and internationally," he explained.
Vanessa Toré, Director at the Ministry of Economic Development, played a leading role in the implementation of the National Export Strategy. The launch of the Frontera is seen as an important step toward creating a more resilient and economically diverse future for Curaçao.
