Curaçao wants to establish a Guarantee Fund Corporate Credits

WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao is working on the introduction of a guarantee fund for corporate financing. The guarantee fund can limit the risk that financiers run when granting loans to companies.

The hope is that the financing of new projects on the island will be facilitated, which will contribute to achieving economic growth.

The project is part of the growth strategy that the government wants to implement in Willemstad. The project is being executed by the Curaçao Development Institute (CDI).

The guarantee fund should be set up according to the model of the SME loan guarantee (BMKB) in the Netherlands. Curaçao therefore receives technical assistance from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RvO). The Financieel Instrumentarium working group of the government further elaborates the proposals. According to Harry Parisius of CDI, there must be concrete proposals in the third quarter of this year.

Natascha Szilágyi and Reinerus van Erp from RvO explored together with the potential financiers some wishes and needs that exist on the island.
