WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Shipping Agents Association (BVCA) has expressed support for recent measures taken by the government and port operator Curaçao Port Services (CPS) aimed at lowering logistics costs in the island’s harbor. According to the association, the initiatives represent an important step toward a sustainable and structural solution to the long-standing challenges faced by importers.
One of the main issues has been the high cost of container handling. The BVCA noted that ongoing discussions with key stakeholders have resulted in concrete actions, including the adoption of more efficient work processes, digital handling of administrative procedures, and improved oversight by the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA).
The BVCA is urging continued collaboration among all parties involved in port logistics—ranging from customs to transport companies—to prevent delays in cargo handling. Small importers, in particular, are often burdened with additional fees and longer waiting times.
By maintaining open dialogue and cooperation across the logistics chain, the association hopes to contribute to a more efficient and resilient port operation in the long term.
