WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has achieved significant financial gains in recent years through a combination of an efficient renovation of the Tax Office building and sweeping reforms within the Tax Administration, according to the Ministry of Finance. The savings and increased tax revenues have provided the government with greater financial room to invest in healthcare, infrastructure, and public sector salaries.
The ministry reported that the renovation was completed well below budget, saving 27 million guilders in construction costs. In addition, the project was finished ahead of schedule, which prevented an estimated 8 million guilders in rental expenses that would otherwise have been paid to the World Trade Center (WTC).
Structural improvements within the Tax Administration have also delivered lasting results. By collecting outstanding taxes, strengthening enforcement, and modernizing payment processes, Curaçao has seen a substantial rise in revenues.
“In 2024, an additional 102 million guilders were collected beyond what was originally budgeted, and by July of this year, the figure has already reached 84 million extra,” the Ministry of Finance stated.
During the opening of the renovated building, the ministry recognized director Sherwin Casper and advisor Wim Nijdam for their key contributions to the project’s success.
