Curaçao Port Services Responds to Criticism: "We Follow Clear Rules and Do Not Obstruct Trade"

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Port Services (CPS), the company responsible for handling container operations at the island's port, has responded to recent criticism from importers, exporters, and business owners, stating that it does not recognize the claims made about its services.

In recent weeks, several stakeholders in the trade sector have voiced frustrations over CPS’s handling of containers, alleging delays and inefficiencies. However, a CPS spokesperson told the press that the company strictly adheres to established procedures and does not obstruct imports or exports in any way. "We operate according to clear rules, and no one is being disadvantaged," the spokesperson said.

CPS emphasized that not a single container has missed an export shipment due to its handling, and invited anyone with evidence to the contrary to come forward. The company clarified that it operates based on formal requests from shipping agents to load or unload containers. Once that is done, it is the agent—not CPS—who decides who receives the container.

Next week, CPS is scheduled to meet with the organization representing importers and distributors to further discuss the concerns raised and clarify procedures.
