THE HAGUE – A delegation from the Parliament of Curaçao, led by Speaker Fergino Brownbill, is currently in the Netherlands for a series of high-level meetings within the Kingdom. The program includes participation in the Tripartite Meeting on September 25, followed by the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultations (IPKO) from September 26 to 29, 2025, in The Hague.

Tripartite Meeting – September 25

As customary, the Tripartite session took place ahead of IPKO, bringing together parliamentary delegations from Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation among the Caribbean countries of the Kingdom and preparing for the upcoming IPKO.

The agenda included:

The current status of the Kingdom Dispute Regulation recently submitted, and next steps in the process;

Concerns presented by the BES Islands delegation to the Curaçao Parliament;

Regional cooperation and general preparations for IPKO.

That evening, the Curaçao delegation also attended a special session in the Dutch Tweede Kamer, where two Kingdom laws were debated: the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, and amendments to the Ships Act. MPs Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia and Ramon Yung delivered remarks on behalf of Curaçao.

IPKO Program – September 26–29

The IPKO opened officially on September 26 in the plenary chamber of the Eerste Kamer. Delegation leaders delivered speeches highlighting recent developments in their respective countries. Later, the delegations visited The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where they discussed the success of Caribbean students in the Netherlands and the role of Papiamentu as a language of instruction.

On September 27, the focus shifted to geopolitical developments and vocational education, with a presentation from the Council of State on its advice “70 Years of the Kingdom Charter” and a discussion on the challenges of aging communities.

The consultations conclude on September 29 with the signing of the list of agreements and a joint press conference.
