WILLEMSTAD - Parliament has passed a motion to establish a special commission to monitor the national budget and is advocating for legislative changes to improve budget oversight. A meeting on this matter was held on August 21, and the session concluded on Wednesday.
The motions aim to strengthen the oversight of the national budget. The first motion received unanimous support from all parliament members, while the second motion was passed with a majority of votes.
Research revealed that during the construction of the new hospital, successive governments made financial decisions without parliamentary approval. In response, Parliament is calling for the creation of a special commission to continuously monitor the budget.
Additionally, through its chairperson, Parliament has officially handed over the final report of the parliamentary investigation into the new hospital to the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM). The dossier includes the report, transcripts of hearings, and all relevant documents collected during the investigation.
In a second motion, Parliament, following the parliamentary inquiry into the Hospital Nobo Otrobanda, is advocating for legislative changes to improve budgetary oversight.
The submission of the final report to the OM is intended to initiate a factual investigation into potential irregularities. Parliament believes it is essential that those responsible for the issues surrounding the new hospital be held accountable, especially if laws were broken.
