WILLEMSTAD - During a special ceremony of the Curaçao Overseas Chinese Association donated relief materials to the Curaçao government. This ceremony was held in the government warehouse of the Ministry of Labor on the afternoon of Tuesday April 14. Labor Minister Hensley Koeiman accepted donations on behalf of the government. Overseas Chinese leaders such as Li Hongliang, Wu Dongjian, Huang Guanxiong and Lu Hongyue, vice presidents of the Overseas Chinese Association attended the donation ceremony.
14 people in Curaçao were diagnosed, and one of them died. The alarm bell is ringing, and the lives and health of the 160,000 residents of the island, including nearly 5,000 overseas Chinese, are under threat. The Curaçao government has taken unprecedented measures to close the island, but the suspension of production and business will inevitably hit the local economy and even affect the livelihood of the people. The Curaçao Overseas Chinese Association, with the good wishes of "together in the same boat, to overcome difficulties", called on Chinese business enterprises and overseas Chinese to participate in the activities of donating food. What the organization wants to do is help and give back to the community and pass on to the people of Curaçao excellent virtue of the Chinese nation.
In just a few days, more than 140 businesses or overseas Chinese have generously donated materials worth more than 110,000 guilders. In addition to food, there are many daily necessities included. These materials will be for families in need who register themselves at the Ministry of Labor and will be distributed free of charge. Today is also the first day of the distribution work. The staff has prepared 500 packages with canned grain and oil, biscuits and chips, toilet paper, pampers and other daily necessities. The first gift package was handed over by Vice President Li Hongliang to the Minister of Labor, symbolizing the end of the donation ceremony.
The Minister of Labor, on behalf of the Curaçao government and the people of Curaçao, thanked the Chinese community for their kind donations. He also said humorously that through such donations, the people of Curaçao saw that the Chinese are not just doing business and making money in our country. They are also good at integrating into and giving back to society and provide timely assistance to the people in need.
