Curaçao is counting on a loan of 540 million from the Netherlands

WILLEMSTAD - In anticipation of an agreement with the Netherlands, the government of Curaçao has already booked 540 million in new loans. This is evident from the response of the Financial Supervision Council (Cft) to the implementation report for the second quarter.

The Cft points out to the Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha that obtaining a new loan is by no means certain. The conditions of the previous loan have not yet been met and for the time being the Rhuggenaath cabinet has not yet reversed its previous rejection of the conditions attached to the new loan.

Debt amounted to 3.1 billion

The figures for the first six months show that Curaçao is heading for a deficit of 687 million guilders for the whole of 2020. The government debt has now risen to 3.1 billion guilders. The country has negative equity, which it now appears to have already risen to 377 million last year.

The Cft advises the government not to reconsider the investments planned for the second half of the year (259 million). In the gruesome letter, the college is critical of the failure to fulfill agreements and the failure to submit documents.
