Curaçao in the running to get 16 million euros from EU

WILLEMSTAD - How can Curaçao use the € 16.95 million from the European Development Fund to further develop the community?

That was the key question during the “Building Resilient and Sustainable Communities” workshop organized by the Ministry of General Affairs at the Renaissance Hotel last week.

Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, in his role as manager of the European Development Fund, opened the session and emphasized that during the negotiations of the EDF program in Brussels the emphasis was placed on the social aspect and the development of our community. Minister Hensley Koeiman of the Ministry of Social Development, Welfare and Labor also spoke with the participants about the topic "resilience" from a social perspective during the workshop.

The EU makes funds available and the government of Curaçao is already implementing various sustainable projects under the EDF10, at neighborhoods such as Kortijn, Zapateer, Nieuw Nederland and Tera Corá. “Now we are in the running for 16.95 million euros from the EDF11, with which the government can further invest in strategic projects that make life better for the people of Curaçao,” says the Prime Minister.
