Curaçao again popular with Dutch tourist

AMSTERDAM, WILLEMSTAD - While measures against coronavirus are being relaxed more and more worldwide, the virus is reviving in many places. Globally, there are now more than 570,000 corona deaths. More than thirteen million people became infected. More than 6,000 people died of Covid-19 in the Netherlands. Curaçao is again popular with Dutch tourists. The island reopened its borders to tourists from Europe and the Caribbean on July 1, after it was closed for more than three months due to the corona crisis.

In total, nearly three thousand passengers have landed on the island since then, more than two thousand are from the Netherlands, the Curaçao tourism board reported based on figures from the first twelve days of July.

The rest comes mainly from the region, especially Aruba and Bonaire. 92 percent of European visitors come from the Netherlands, the rest from Belgium and Germany. Aruba opened its borders for Americans on July 10, Sint Maarten wants to do so on August 1. Curaçao will keep its borders closed for the United States for the time being.

The Curaçao tourism agency is satisfied with the figures. In total, the island wants to allow no more than 10,000 visitors in July to minimize the risk of corona infections. Traditionally, the Dutch are the largest group of tourists on Curaçao.
