COVID-19 Update: “No tests conducted yesterday”

WILLEMSTAD - Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth indicated today, during the daily briefing, that no new tests were performed yesterday or today. This means that the numbers have not changed. Curaçao still has 14 confirmed cases with 2 inconclusive who will be tested again. These 2 are being treated as confirmed cases and they remain in isolation.

The doctor also said that there is local contamination, but it has been contained. It was checked whether there were many pockets or loose infections. This turned out not to be the case.

“More infections can be added, which is why the care capacity must be up to standard. The measures must be relaxed step by step, otherwise we will still exceed the care capacity. Probably not many more people are infected than have been tested positive. Several small waves of infections would arrive in the coming years. It is not certain that you can become immune to the virus,” said the doctor.

Gerstenbluth also indicated that it is not yet clear how such a wave can proceed, only a vaccine can bring clarity. In the coming years, the number of tests and the care capacity must scale up to cope with other waves.

“A second corona wave is expected. The number is now going down, there is now time to prepare for this second wave. The healthcare capacity is now ready to relax, we cannot always remain in lockdown.”
