COVID-19 Update Dutch Caribbean islands

WILLEMSTAD - The number of corona infections in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom continues to rise. In Aruba it was reported this weekend that a tenth patient has died. There are now more than 1200 active cases on the island.

On St. Maarten, where 264 infections were registered on Sunday, the number of deceased patients has been at seventeen for some time.

Six new infections were registered on Curaçao this weekend. In total there are now 32 people with corona. In March a Dutch tourist died on the island who was infected with the virus. There are now two cases on Bonaire, there is one infection on both Saba and St. Eustatius.

The government calls on residents to protect themselves and their families by adhering to hygiene rules and keeping their distance from others. Aruba is the only island that has reinstated a curfew to avoid further spread.

The curfew was introduced on Thursday and is valid between midnight and five in the morning. On the night of Saturday or Sunday, nine people were arrested who were on the street without permission. Anyone who is arrested must pay a fine of one thousand Aruban florins.

The government of Curaçao indicated last night that today at 11:30 they will announce more measures in the fight against this virus.
