COVID-19 Update: “34th case was already in quarantine”

WILLEMSTAD - The person who tested positive for the coronavirus on Saturday was already in quarantine after returning from Aruba on August 3.

During that period, the man previously tested negative. Epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth does not expect more people to become infected. "The chance that this man has passed on the virus to others is minimal." The man was retested after developing symptoms of Covid-19, the disease that can be caused by the virus. He has been in isolation at home since Saturday.

This man traveled back to Curaçao on August 3, three days before the Curaçao government classified Aruba as a "high risk" country, due to the explosive increase in the number of infections. The epidemiology department of the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) has an overview of who has been in contact: the traveling companions, family members and friends. These people are under surveillance and watched.

A PCR test was to be taken from the traveling companions of the infected person. Gerstenbluth says that Sunday was the thirteenth day of the two weeks that the quarantine lasts.
