WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government immediately stopped all indoor events on Friday afternoon for a period of at least two weeks. In this way, the spread of the coronavirus on the island must be prevented.
No corona infections have been registered in Curaçao, on the other hand, almost three hundred infections were added in Aruba in five days. Because until a few days ago there was still a lot of air traffic between the two islands, Curaçao wants to combat possible risks.
Epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth said on Friday afternoon that through indoor entertainment venues, where many people gather, the virus can spread very quickly. Parties in the open air, for example on the beach, are still allowed. In addition, all persons who have been to Aruba in the past fourteen days are called upon to report to the health services.
According to Gerstenbluth, the population has made a great effort in recent months to prevent the spread of the coronavirus on the island. “As a result, we no longer have any infections. But with the explosive rise in Aruba, we must be extra vigilant,” says Gerstenbluth.
