THE HAGUE - Gunay Uslu, who as Director Hotel Development & Design was responsible for the construction of the Corendon Mangrove Resort on Curaçao, will become the new Undersecretary for Culture and Media in the Netherlands. She will be part of the new Rutte IV cabinet on behalf of D66.
Gunay Uslu is the sister of the founder of Corendon, Atilay Uslu. She has been involved in the family business since its inception. Art, culture and history are given a prominent place in all her projects. In Curaçao, she made a huge effort to involve local art at the resort in the Rif area. Various works by local artists can be admired in the all-inclusive resort, including Carlos Blaaker and Giovanni Abath. She has also initiated a tour through Otrobanda with the neighborhood organization Fundashon Rif.
She calls the Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort her most special project. "I have learned so much and got to know so many inspiring people. Especially many remarkable women. Curaçao has many special and strong women," she said during the opening of the large-scale project in 2020.
In addition to her work for Corendon, Uslu is a cultural historian and guest researcher at the University of Amsterdam. She specializes in the history of European culture, museums and cultural policy. The new Undersecretary is very active in the cultural sector, including as chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam and as a member of the advisory board of the Mauritshuis and the Rembrandt Association.
