WILLEMSTAD – A recent survey by the Fundashon pa Konsumidó has revealed striking price differences for pharmacy products across Curaçao. The study, conducted between August 6 and 15, showed that prices for identical products varied by as much as 16 guilders between different pharmacies.
The consumer organization visited 29 pharmacies and recorded prices for 93 commonly purchased products, focusing on hygiene items such as mouthwash, shower gel, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, hair care, and skincare.
Best Assortment
Botika Groot Piscadera ranked first in product range, offering 67 of the 93 surveyed items. Botika Novo followed closely with 66 products, while Botika Cerrito offered 65.
Lowest Prices
When it came to affordability, Botika Novo emerged as the winner, offering the lowest price on 22 of the 93 products. Botika Cerrito and Botika Groot Piscadera tied for second place, each with 21 products at the lowest price. Botika Sòrsaka ranked third with 13 products priced most competitively.
Significant Variations
The study found that price differences ranged from as little as 24 cents to as much as 16.29 guilders for the same product. According to the foundation, the country of origin of certain products may partly explain these discrepancies.
The organization advises consumers to compare prices carefully and prepare shopping lists before purchasing. Reading labels is also essential for making informed decisions, and taking advantage of pharmacy promotions can help consumers save money.
