WILLEMSTAD - All 300 people aboard a Scientology-owned and -operated cruise ship has been cleared of the risk of spreading or contracting measles after the boat’s quarantine, the Church said in a statement.

The Freewinds ship was first quarantined in St. Lucia in late April after a female staff member was diagnosed with measles, then moved to Curacao.

Passengers who had been vaccinated or who had already had the measles previously were released from the ship earlier this month, and everyone else was set to be vaccinated on board.

“Freewinds protocols of safety and medical care, that exceed usual nautical standards, proved highly effective in containing the illness to one single case,” the Church of Scientology said in a statement to the Daily News.

“Health authorities in Curacao have acknowledged the Freewinds for its strict isolation protocol, which effectively contained the illness to the single case and prevented it from spread.”

More than 700 people have been diagnosed with measles in the United States this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control, the highest number in 25 years.
