WILLEMSTAD - The official opening of Courtyard by Marriott Curaçao was celebrated with great festivity last Wednesday, attended by 300 guests. The event commemorated the efforts and journey that culminated in the establishment of Courtyard by Marriott in Curaçao. The collaboration of the government, local financiers who fully funded the project, and the dedication of local entrepreneurs and employees brought entrepreneur Gilbert's dream to fruition.
Among the guests were various ministers, stakeholders, and management from entities involved in the construction and development of the hotel. The hotel's operator and interior designer were specially flown in from Miami to attend the event.
On the spacious courtyard in front of the hotel, guests enjoyed local music by Axel and Friends, while several stakeholders delivered their words of gratitude. Following opening remarks by General Manager Ernst van Zutphen and Jimmy Shandor, VP Operations Highgate, ministers Charles Cooper and Ruisandro Cijntje addressed the audience. They both reflected on the remarkable journey leading to the opening of Courtyard Curaçao, which began in 2006 when Gilbert approached the government to develop the land commercially.
Minister Cooper stated, "We take pride in having paved the way with the government for the visionaries behind Courtyard Curaçao, now standing as an exceptional hotel in the heart of our island." Minister Cijntje added, "Courtyard Curaçao is a splendid addition to our tourist offerings, particularly for American tourists. It perfectly blends international standards, our rich Curaçaoan culture, and the strength of our local hospitality."
The initiator of the project also spoke a few words. He emphasized how proud he is that, despite the challenges, with the support of local financiers, the project developer, and the Courtyard by Marriott team, he can proudly present the hotel.
The investors, Isla Pension Fund and Vida Nova Pension Fund, emphasized the importance of investments in tourism by pension funds and stated that this project has proven such investments to be worthwhile. They are proud that Courtyard Curaçao is one of the first 100% locally financed hotels on the island.
Lastly, Alberto da Costa Figueira from CMC Operations N.V. took the floor. He emphasized that it has been a "hell of a ride," but he is proud of the result. He thanked the hotel management and all partners for their collaboration and invited everyone in Curaçao to visit Centro Gastrobar, the lobby restaurant, or book a staycation.
After a spectacular performance by fire dancers and an exceptional fireworks display, guests were given a tour of the hotel. They enjoyed cocktails at Centro Gastrobar and visited the elevated pool area and one of the rooms.
Courtyard by Marriott Curaçao, located at Pater Euwensweg 11 in Otrobanda, features 150 rooms and two suites. The hotel offers a modern and flexible hotel experience, incorporating various elements from the nature and culture of Curaçao.
