THE HAGUE - “A geopolitical showdown of major powers such as the US, Russia, and China can have an impact on the Caribbean part of the Kingdom”. This can be read in the Security Strategy for the Dutch Kingdom. It is the first time that the security strategy concerns all countries of the Kingdom.
The Dutch Ministers of Justice and Security Yeşilgöz-Zegerius and of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra sent the strategy to the House of Representatives today. “Threats also know no borders, not even within our Kingdom. As the Netherlands and as a Kingdom, we are not immune to the changes in the world. National security is an international security and vice versa. It is even more important that we link our commitment to security, both nationally and internationally, in this strategy,” said the ministers.
Threats to security in the Caribbean come from subversive crime, cyber-attacks, and climate change. The Security Strategy for the Kingdom of the Netherlands was developed with the broad involvement of public, private, and social organizations in all parts of the Kingdom, under the coordination of the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV).
