Care Sehos in downward spiral

WILLEMSTAD - The care in the Sint Elisabeth hospital on Curacao - just like the building itself - continues to fall into disrepair.

A few weeks ago, because of a shortage of medical equipment they had already decided that non-acute operations were no longer performed, the hospital has now run out of its supply of infusions, reports Alexander Saleh of the Medical Specialists Association.

Due to payment delays, more and more suppliers are refusing to accept orders from the hospital. Due to the lack of infusions, patients have to wait longer for treatment.

The new Curacao Medical Center should have opened its doors two years ago, but next to the budgeted 436 million guilders, 200 million extra is needed for the completion. The Curacao government is trying to make agreements with the Netherlands on the financing thereof.
