WILLEMSTAD - According to the current President of the Parliament Ana-Maria Pauletta, there will be no salary cut for the Members of Parliament. The Netherlands has set a requirement that parliamentarians reduce their fringe benefits by 25 percent.
Their salary is almost 13,000 guilders per month. The budget cut mainly takes place on the allowances. To achieve the 25 percent discount, the car allowance, the representation allowance, the holiday allowance, and the holiday hours are reduced. That is a total of 25 percent.
The Prime Minister had previously asked how Parliament will implement the 25 percent budget cut on fringe benefits. This condition - as imposed by the Dutch government in connection with the provision of liquidity support to Curaçao, necessary because of the corona crisis - will take effect on 1 July 2020.
On May 18, the parliament of Curaçao adopted a motion in which the government is supported regarding the acceptance of the conditions set by the Kingdom Council of Ministers (RMR) for the second tranche of emergency financial aid. One of the conditions is "a 25 percent reduction on the total package of terms of employment of Parliamentarians" and, incidentally, also the ministers. "This on an annual basis and with effect from 1 July 2020 and valid until further notice," according to the conditions document. In addition, no indexation is applied until further notice. Savings should be made in favor of general resources.
After a final decision by Parliament, this must be officially announced for the budget cut to be carried out by the paying agency at the Ministry of Administration, Planning and Services (BPD).
