Beatrix concludes working visit to Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix concluded her four-day working visit to Curaçao on Sunday. "I am very happy with the visit and love this island very much," the 83-year-old princess said during a press moment.

Beatrix said that she is doing well, that she had a good time on the island and that she hopes to return someday. “I especially enjoy what you experience here, the dedication, the care for people, the care for animals and for nature as a whole.”

Beatrix also learned a lot from her visit, for example that coral is an animal and not a plant. “They can eat, listen, feel. Nobody really knows that,” the princess said.

At the end of the meeting with the media in Curaçao, Beatrix said that she is convinced that her granddaughter Amalia "will grow up to be a sensible person". She will turn 18 on December 7. “Great fun, especially if she stays healthy and sensible,” says Beatrix.

A day after her birthday, the princess is introduced to the Council of State, the most important legislative adviser to the government and parliament. Her father, King Willem-Alexander, is the chairman. As intended heir to the throne, Amalia will sit on the council and in the advisory branch of the council. The Council of State is also the highest general administrative court in the country.
