WILLEMSTAD - Heavy rainfall on Monday morning caused an Avior Airlines aircraft arriving from Venezuela to veer slightly off the runway while landing at Curaçao International Airport (Hato). The plane’s wheels became stuck in the soft ground beside the landing strip, airport officials confirmed.
According to airport authorities, no one was injured, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
As a precaution, the airport temporarily suspended operations to allow for runway cleaning and inspection to check for possible damage or contamination caused by mud and water. Air traffic was briefly halted during the safety procedures.
After the inspection and cleanup were completed, the runway was cleared for use, and normal flight operations have since resumed.
Airport officials praised the swift response of ground and emergency crews, emphasizing that safety protocols worked effectively to prevent further complications amid challenging weather conditions.
