Antillean Adventist Hospital and CBV Union Sign Letter of Intent After Prolonged Conflict

WILLEMSTAD – After months of conflict and difficult negotiations, the Antillean Adventist Hospital and labor union CBV have signed a letter of intent aimed at restoring trust and improving cooperation between hospital staff and management. The development was confirmed by multiple media outlets and Curaçao’s Minister of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN), Javier Silvania (MFK), via social media.

The agreement marks a significant turning point after a period of mounting tensions, which escalated due to alleged breaches of prior agreements and a controversial decision by hospital leadership to temporarily withdraw recognition of the union.

The renewed dialogue between both parties was made possible through the intervention of a mediator, following an initiative by Minister Silvania. The signed letter of intent includes provisions regarding union contributions, and lays the groundwork for future negotiations on a new collective labor agreement (CAO).

Minister Silvania praised the parties for their willingness to return to the negotiating table, emphasizing that constructive dialogue is essential for maintaining stability within the healthcare sector.

While the signing of the letter is a positive step, substantive negotiations are expected to resume later as both sides work toward a long-term agreement to ensure fair labor practices and quality healthcare delivery on the island.
