Again no quorum for public meeting Parliament

WILLEMSTAD - For the tenth time now, Parliament was unable to meet. A meeting was called for Thursday, but it did not take place because there weren’t enough Members of Parliament.  During this meeting, the MPs were supposed to discuss issues surrounding the sale of the Curaçao House  in The Hague and about the vaccination program. Emmilou Capriles' credentials would also have to be approved, but again there was no quorum.

Capriles' credentials have been stagnating in Parliament for weeks. The opposition systematically boycotts the meetings because they do not want to cooperate in approving those credentials.

Since Jeser El Ayoubi's resignation, Capriles has been waiting for the credentials to be approved so that she can be sworn in. Capriles was 11th on the PAR election list in 2017.

Why the opposition does not want to cooperate in approving the credentials remains a mystery. President of Parliament Ana Maria Pauletta reacted disappointed about the lack of a majority in the Parliament.

In addition to the treatment of the credentials, talks would be held with Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath about the sale of the Curaçao House. In early December, the Court of Audit took a hard line in a report against former plenipotentiary minister Marvelyne Wiels. The Court of Audit investigated the sale of the Curaçao House on Badhuisweg in The Hague.

Furthermore, Minister of Health, Nature and the Environment Zita Jesus-leito would come to Parliament yesterday to explain the vaccination program.
