WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecution Service (OM) withdrew the appeal in cassation against the acquittal of the Joint Court of Justice of December 13, 2018 in the case against the former President of the Central Bank, Emsley Tromp.

In his judgment of the end of last year, the Court acquitted Tromp from every accusation by indicating that Tromp's tax returns are not only in order, but there is also no evidence of any intent of tax fraud.

Although this decision by the Public Prosecution Service does not come as a surprise given the Court's unequivocal acquittal, Tromp is relieved that the nearly 2.5-year-long nightmare is coming to an end.

A nightmare that has not only led to enormous - and virtually irreparable - reputational damage, but above all to his resignation as President of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. An institute for which he spent almost 30 years with a lot of energy and that he had to leave through the back door just before his retirement.

In the coming period, Tromp will consider further steps aimed at recovering the damage suffered as a result of the unjustified prosecution.
