WILLEMSTAD - All 10 candidates for the highest decoration in Curaçao this year have formally accepted to receive their Medal of Merit. This took place on Monday, May 22, 2023, during a special ceremony at Landhuis Vredenberg as part of the 20th edition of the Medal of Merit. On Flag Day, July 2nd, the nominees will receive their Medals of Merit.
Since 2004, the Government of Curaçao honors up to 5 individuals who have made exceptional contributions to our community. These individuals receive a decoration, a medal called the Medal of Merit. This is the most prestigious decoration that a citizen can receive from the Government of Curaçao. As this year marks the 20th edition of the Medal of Merit, the Government of Curaçao decided to nominate 10 individuals instead of 5. These are citizens who deserve recognition for their contributions through their talents and work in the construction of our community. The 10 nominees to receive a Medal of Merit are:
1. Joyce Ingrid Marguerite Adoptie-Treurniet
2. Rose Mary Allen
3. Haydee Remigia Clementina
4. Else Marie Eman-Bradshaw
5. Curd Lawrence Evertz
6. Ryan Antony de Jongh
7. Judith Mauris
8. Pedro Herman Narvaez
9. Rignald Sylvestre Recordino
10. Angelina de Ron-Tromp
The Medal of Merit Commission has selected these 10 candidates from the more than 60 nominations received from the Culture and Sports Sector. The Council of Ministers has approved the selection. During the ceremony at Landhuis Vredenberg, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture & Sports, Mr. Sithree van Heydoorn, approached the nominees with the petition to accept the decoration. Each one accepted, and then a toast was made.
With their acceptance, everything is formally ready for the decoration. In the coming weeks, the Culture and Sports Sector will share more information about the meritorious work of the nominees.
