WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch naval ship Zr.Ms. Groningen has intercepted a drug transport for the fourth time in a short period, seizing nearly 3000 kilos of cocaine. This was announced by the Caribbean Defense.
A Dash-8 patrol aircraft from the Caribbean Coast Guard spotted a go-fast vessel near the ABC islands. Zr.Ms. Groningen was nearby and immediately sprang into action, launching a pursuit with its two fast FRISC interceptors.
After a chase, supported by the Dash-8 patrol aircraft, the go-fast vessel with four crew members was intercepted. The four smugglers and the 3000 kilos of seized cocaine were handed over to the U.S. Coast Guard.
In an anti-drug operation on June 4, Zr.Ms. Groningen, in collaboration with the support vessel Zr.Ms. Pelikaan, also seized drugs. The naval ships retrieved packages of marijuana and cocaine from the water.
The drug bust took place on May 31 but was only announced on Thursday.
