What community service means to Avalon University (press release)

WILLEMSTAD - Community service offers so many wonderful life experiences and lessons. At Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM), we believe that showing involvement in community service will make our students well-rounded individuals which makes for a better more caring physician.

For a medical student, it's hard to look at the world outside themselves. Everyone is so engulfed with studies, grades, jobs and clubs, that they forget the world is changing around them.

AUSOM's faculty Dr's Arja, Kumar and Reshma along with some of their students visited the Breezes Curaçao All Inclusive Resort to give a general health wellness checkup to their employees. They were able to check their height, weight, BMI, blood glucose and blood pressure. After these checks they were made, the employees were counseled about modifiable risk factors and lifestyle changes.

The students realize the impact of taking part in community service. The people we serve, in many ways, are depending on us. It takes a fraction of your time to serve someone, even in the smallest ways possible.
