Walroud wants "same-sex marriage" again on the agenda

WILLEMSTAD - Leader of the PAR faction in the Parliament Stephen Walroud has sent a letter to the President Parliament Ana Maria Pauletta. He asked that the legislative process for legalizing same-sex marriage to be put on the agenda of a meeting in the Central Committee. Walroud is one of the initiators of the so-called same-sex marriage bill proposal. In the past 13 months, nothing has been done by Parliament with the proposal. He wants to change that.

In his letter he states that this week is the annual Pride Week. This week, he says, is normally filled with activities that call attention to understanding and respect for the LGBT community. Due to the corona crisis this year, the activities of the Pride Week have been put on the back burner and some activities such as the "Curaçao Pride Walk" have been canceled.

'Given the importance of this week for the LGBT community and especially the path that this community has taken since 2018 to - imitating other countries in the world and in the region - also obtain equal rights in Curaçao with regard to civil marriage ', he wants parliament to consider the initiative law for gay marriage again soon. At the end of August, the Advisory Council issued its advice on the bill.
