WILLEMSTAD – As part of its deepening commitment to workforce development and sustainable operations in Curaçao, VIGOR has kicked off a series of participatory capacity-building workshops designed to strengthen the skills and readiness of CRU employees.
The inaugural session was hosted on the 6th at The Triangle and developed in collaboration with Plexus Energy, VIGOR’s strategic advisor on social and environmental performance, and focused on enhancing capabilities in Health, Safety, Environment, and Social Performance (HSES). Sixteen CRU team members participated in a highly interactive session that marked the beginning of an ongoing training program.
“These sessions are just the beginning,” said Ross Macfarlane, General Manager of VIGOR Curaçao. “Our goal is to build strong institutional knowledge and foster a collaborative approach to safety, operational excellence, and social responsibility. Together with CRU, we’re laying the foundation for long-term success.” VIGOR acknowledged that they are delighted to work with David de Haseth, General Manager of CRU, and praised the CRU staff for their knowledge, active participation, and aspiration to operate with excellence.
The first workshop was a highly interactive event, facilitated by Plexus and grounded in VIGOR’s global HSES Policy, which emphasizes compliance with international standards, the integrity of operational assets, and the importance of proactive response measures. By embedding these principles into CRU’s daily operations, and with attendance from all of the HSE, medical, operations, and firefighting departments, VIGOR is promoting a culture rooted in safe and responsible operations.
Jay Wagner, Director at Plexus, emphasized the significance of a comprehensive HSES approach. “HSES refers to Health, Safety, Environment, and Social, where the 'S'—Social—is a key integral part that is often overlooked. We believe that responsible business begins with shared understanding and mutual respect within the community.”
The capacity-building program is a pillar of VIGOR’s broader efficiency and integration strategy in Curaçao, where the company seeks to create long-lasting value for its stakeholders and the communities where it operates.
