Update: Kingdom Council of Ministers gives instructions for Emmilou Capriles to join Parliament

THE HAGUE - The Netherlands has issued a General Order of the Government to allow Emmilou Capriles to enter parliament. This was stated by Undersecretary Raymond Knops after the Kingdom Council of Ministers in The Hague.

According to Knops, democracy is knowingly sidelined by a number of Members of Parliament. "Legislation is awaiting consideration in parliament, including agreements with regard to country packages (financial assistance and requirements) that the Netherlands has made with Curaçao," Knops said.

Knops makes it clear that as long as the legislation has not been dealt with, liquidity support cannot be provided by the Netherlands. "It is anti-democratic what is happening here," Knops explains. He says the instruction is based on the lack of good governance.

Capriles' credentials have been stagnating in parliament for weeks. The opposition systematically boycotts the meetings because they do not want to cooperate in approving those credentials.

Since Jeser El Ayoubi's resignation, Capriles has been waiting for the credentials to be approved so that she can be sworn in. Capriles was 11th on the PAR election list in 2017.
