Unique gold estafette men at 4 × 400 at world championship in Poland

WARSAW - The Dutch men's team has, with a great Curaçao influence, conquered gold in the 4 × 400 meters at the World Cup relay in Poland. Jochem Dobber, Tony van Diepen, Liemarvin Bonevacia and Ramsey Angela thus wrote athletics history, because a Dutch relay team has never won a world title on this Olympic number. Bonevacia and Angela are Curaçao athletes. The quartet won the final in Chorzow in 3.03.45. Japan came in second, and Botswana third. “We dreamed of this”, Bonevacia said beaming at the NOS. “This is the crown on this distance. But now we also want to reach the Olympic final. That is our next dream.”

The same foursome also conquered the gold in the 4 × 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Poland this spring. The men secured Olympic qualification for the Games in Tokyo by qualifying for the final as the fastest.
