Transition phase plastic ban this year

WILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament Giselle Mc William hopes this year to start with the transition phase for the ban on plastic. The goal is to introduce the ban on plastic bags and foam bags from January 2020, but, says Mc William, 'companies must first be able to stock up and I want to give them a few months' time.

The law still must be approved by the parliament, but Mc William estimates the chances positively. The coalition, in any case, proposes that a majority will approve the law. “I cannot imagine that the opposition would vote against. This is important for Curacao and everyone knows that.”
