Thirteen youngsters receive training as fishermen's assistants

WILLEMSTAD - Twelve boys and one girl receive a one-year education and if they have completed it, they will become assistant fishermen. This is according to the project leader of the Department of Fishery and Live Stock Marcel Pinedo.

These are young people who are unemployed or fall under the drop-out category. They have already learned some basic skills such as swimming and they also have a first aid diploma. Indispensable for being able to go out to sea.

Although the project is supported by the ministries of VVRP and GMN, there seems to be little money available for it.

Labor Department helped with a starting amount of 20 thousand guilders but it can be concluded from the words of Pinedo that the project must now support itself.
