The Netherlands wants better cooperation with University of Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - The Netherlands wants to cooperate better with the University of Curaçao (UoC). During a visit to the University of Curaçao on Friday September 30, a delegation from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Directorate of International Policy and the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences exchanged ideas for more intensive cooperation. Prior to the visit, a conference was held in Aruba.  

 

Under the chairmanship of Rector Magnificus Dr. Francis de Lanoy, the UoC is a member of the 'Study Success Caribbean Students' steering group. The aim of the steering group is to increase the study success of Caribbean students. The university has announced that De Lanoy has been active for the past year and a half together with the chairman of the Executive Board of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences Ron Bormans. They have inventoried various initiatives that should lead to improvement.  

 

According to the university, the visit was aimed at getting acquainted with different roles in the educational field in Curaçao and also to exchange ideas to support the parties more intensively and to allow them to work together. Furthermore, the content of the “study success for Caribbean students” was also discussed. The Rector Magnificus explained the structure of the pre-academic program. 

 

 Prospective students for higher education will soon be better guided so that their chance of success in the follow-up study is increased.  

 

Prior to the visit to the university, a conference was held in Aruba from 25 to 29 September. The members of the delegation came together to have discussions between partners and to come up with a plan of action that should lead to improvement for the Caribbean students. During the conference, the Strategic Education Alliance entitled “A bright future for Caribbean Students” was launched.
