The business community wants Dutch aid without government intervention

WILLEMSTAD - If the government of Curaçao is unable to reach an agreement with the Netherlands on further liquidity support, the local business community will propose that the Dutch aid comes without government intervention.

According to the Dutch newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad it has from good sources that a letter with a message to this effect has been sent to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath. The letter is from the fourteen interest groups in the business world. This group had previously insisted on a speedy political agreement with the Netherlands.

In writing to the head of government, the business community calls itself "pragmatic" and indicates that it is ultimately about the prosperity and well-being of Curaçao and the population. Reference is made to its own Advisory Board: although the RvA does identify certain shortcomings in the Dutch offer, the advisory board also indicates that Curaçao must have an alternative to be able to continue to pay for everything itself, if the help from The Hague is not accepted.

The need is urgent and companies want clarity from the government quickly. According to the companies, it is more important than ever that they can count on a government that meets the challenges together with the business community in a "confidence-building way" and that can also sketch a clear picture of the future.
