Tax department switches to electronic message box

WILLEMSTAD - The tax department of Curaçao is switching to an electronic message box, starting with the 2024 property tax assessments.

Normally, these assessments are sent to most taxpayers through the mail, but that will change. In the second half of this year, the digital message box will be added to the online tax portal for all taxpayers.

They will then receive a notification via email that the assessment has been placed in the message box. The option to receive the assessments as a hard copy will still exist for the time being.

Other forms of communication from the tax department will also increasingly take place through this electronic message box. With this, the tax department aims to structurally improve the quality of its services to its customers.

This month, the tax office will start sending out the property tax assessments for the year 2023, still by regular mail. In collaboration with the Cadastre, the tax office is working on cleaning up the property tax administration so that the assessments are issued correctly to the rightful owner in one go.

This will prevent taxpayers from having to file objections to incorrect assessments. The collaboration with the Cadastre has a structural nature, so that the property tax administration of the tax office remains up to date. The property tax assessments for the year 2024 will therefore be issued early in the year via the digital message box.
