WILLEMSTAD - Surprise Curaçao, popularly known as the 'Blokker', is now a thing of the past. Through its social media, the store thanked all its customers for the 35-year long trust. There is a real estate sign indicating that the building is for sale.

According to sources, the closure has to do with the reorganization at the Dutch retail chain, of which Surprise is the representative. Blokker holding has been losing for years because of the arrival of competitors, such as Action, and an ever-increasing competition online.

Last year many brands were removed from the stock and several stores were closed, but in 2017 Blokker still suffered the biggest loss in the history of the company. These developments and the competition on Curaçao have now led to the closure of the store.

If anyone interested, the building is being sold for almost two million guilders.
