WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao care institutions that are affiliated with the Federation of Care Institutions Foundation will be considerably reduced this year on their subsidies from the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW).

This is part of austerity measures announced by the government and it concerns cuts ranging from 6.5% to more than 16%. The institutions call these measures completely unacceptable and have filed a protest with the government.

These cuts mean that several people in the health care sector will lose their jobs and the quality of service will also suffer.
