Stricter corona measures for supermarkets and the catering industry

WILLEMSTAD - The government announced stricter measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Information sessions for supermarkets, sneks (snack bars) and bars have been held in recent days. Police and the Ministry of Economic Development were also in attendance. From now on, both authorities will also check more strictly on the announced measures.

Supermarkets may allow a maximum of 250 visitors. Owners must ensure that no more than half the capacity is allowed. For example, if a supermarket has room for 100 people, then no more than 50 people are allowed in.

Children under 16 are also allowed to enter supermarkets but a maximum of two people per household can go grocery shopping.

Restaurants can have a maximum of 50 clients at a time. As with supermarkets, restaurants are allowed to use half their capacity. A maximum of 25 visitors may be admitted to bars and sneks (snack bars).

The government also announced that guests must be registered in restaurants. Privacy must be guaranteed.

Note: Curaçao Chronicle is working on translating the new measures. We will have them on the website as soon as possible.
