Stolen motorbikes at vehicle inspection

WILLEMSTAD - The number of stolen motorbikes on public roads at the inspection garage is increasing.

This is what the Public Prosecution Service (OM), the police and the Traffic and Transport Implementation Organization said in a joint statement.

They find more and more stolen motorbikes when they inspect motor vehicles during traffic checks and / or arrests of suspects. These are motorbikes or parts where fraud has been committed. Often a false vehicle identification number has been affixed.

The inspection garage increasingly discovers that this identification has not been made on a factory basis. In such cases, motorbikes are handed over to the police for criminal investigation.

Sometimes it even starts when importing these motorbikes. They are then stolen abroad. For that reason, cooperation has now been sought with Customs.

The OM warns people to investigate the origin of (second-hand) motorcycles when buying here or abroad. There is a legal obligation for the buyer to investigate.

According to the Public Prosecutor, fraud involving passenger cars, quads and other vehicles always leads to confiscation.
