Silvania: "No liquidity support due to miscommunication"

WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch officials of the ministry have wrongly advised outgoing Undersecretary Raymond Knops of the Interior and Kingdom Relations about Curaçao's plans of approach to qualify for a new tranche of liquidity support. That is according to Finance Minister Javier Silvania in a recent interview. The Kingdom Council of Ministers in The Hague announced last Friday that Curaçao did not meet the deadline of submitting the documents to become eligible for the financial assistance. Minister Silvania says that this is not correct.

On Friday it was announced that both Curaçao and Aruba were not yet receiving liquidity support for the period October 1 to December 31. Curaçao must meet certain conditions to be eligible for liquidity support. For example, the Netherlands is demanding a reorganization of the Tax Authorities.

“I'd almost like to say it's a miscommunication, but I don't know if that's the right word. We have met the requested deadline of the action plans," said the minister. “The fact that it now seems as if Curaçao did not make it is perhaps due to the time difference. The officials of the Interior have already received drafts from us before 15 September and also provided feedback on them”.

According to Silvania, efforts should be made to improve communication between the Netherlands and Curaçao.
