SER and High Councils of State Brief Governor on Their Constitutional Role

WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday, 20 November 2025, Governor Mauritsz de Kort met with the Social and Economic Council (SER) and the High Councils of State of Curaçao—including the Council of Advice (RvA), the Ombudsman and the General Audit Chamber (ARC)—for an in-depth introductory session.

During the meetings, the Governor received detailed briefings from these key institutions on how they fulfil their constitutional responsibilities within Curaçao’s system of governance, as well as the nature of the advice and oversight they provide to the government.

General Audit Chamber (ARC)

Officials from the General Audit Chamber outlined their mandate to safeguard the lawful, efficient and transparent use of public funds, explaining how their audits help strengthen good governance.

Representatives of the Council of Advice discussed their statutory role in reviewing draft legislation and government decrees, providing the Governor with insight into how their legal and constitutional analyses contribute to sound decision-making.

The SER informed the Governor about its advisory work on socio-economic policy, including consultations with employers, employees and independent experts aimed at promoting balanced and sustainable development.

Ombudsman

The Ombudsman explained his office’s function as an independent guardian of citizens’ rights, highlighting the handling of complaints, mediation responsibilities and efforts to strengthen public trust in government services.
