Senate: Final word on corona loans not yet spoken

THE HAGUE - The First Chamber Committee for Kingdom Relations in The Hague believes that the discussion on the refinancing of the coronavirus loans for Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten is not concluded.

Senators Alexander van Hattem (PVV) and Peter Nicolaï (Party for the Animals) expressed their need for a written question round with State Secretary Alexandra Van Huffelen of Kingdom Relations in a procedural meeting today.

Earlier in the day, the committee received a briefing behind closed doors from Aruba's Prime Minister Wever-Croes. She accuses the Dutch government of seeking to profit at the expense of the Aruban population by charging an interest rate of 6.9% on the 915 million coronavirus loan. This percentage will be reduced to 3.4% once Aruba ceases its resistance to regulating financial oversight through a kingdom law.
