Searches have also been carried out in Curaçao due to possible scams by medical specialists

WILLEMSTAD - Last week, the Dutch Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD), in collaboration with the Curaçao Public Prosecution Service, searched various locations in Curaçao in connection with a Dutch investigation into corruption by medical specialists. Property would have been seized.

The searches did not only take place in Curaçao, but also in the Netherlands and Germany. The FIOD does not report where the medical specialists worked and which supplier is involved. The Public Prosecution Service in Willemstad does not make any announcements about investigations by others. It is unclear whether the searches in Curaçao were about doctors or a supplier.

It is suspected that medical specialists have been receiving payments from a supplier of medical devices for years in exchange for preferential policies for their products. The doctors probably received millions of euros for this through international constructions with legal entities.

The investigation is being conducted by the Anti Corruption Center of the FIOD (ACC). The ACC was set up in response to the intensified national and international attention for the fight against corruption. The investigation is led by the Functional Public Prosecutor's Office.
